It’s been so busy lately. Not that I’m complaining at all, I honestly feel both lucky and accomplished. None of it is coming without effort, but also people are being generous and I’m fortunate for that.
Last night wrapped up my schedule of December performances but one, Band Swap XII at The Exchange. I’m very excited for this gig because it will see me ditching my usual program for something completely new. For the uninitiated, Band Swap is an annual fundraiser in Regina (and a sister in Saskatoon) where members of different bands in town sign up, have their names put in a hat and then have 24 hours to learn 20 minutes of covers to play the next day. Money raised goes to Girls Rock Regina and the Carmichael Outreach.
Being 9 days away from a gig with no knowledge of what songs I’m playing, who I’m playing with or even what instrument I’ll be playing is wild. I’ve wanted to do this gig for many years but never had the time off to do it. But this year is different, and I was thankfully accepted!
Preparation is going to look weird, but it’s probably some work I’m overdue to do. I’ll be sitting down and learning the short list of covers I’ve had on the backburner for Jeremy and his Kazoo. I also plan to run through my catalogue on bass guitar a couple of times over the next week and a bit as well. Just get the brain nice and plastic.
I should probably take a few breaks for Christmas too. I suppose.
There’s just so much to do. With Telemiracle coming up, January is going to be very busy with rehearsing, travel and planning my own fundraiser for the show. Lots of that is happening already but there’s lots to do yet. Then I plan to slow back on performing in February to do FAWM again and get a pile of songs together to pull from over the next year.
I’m still slowly chipping away at my secret merch project. I’d really like to get that into a place where I can start producing things and sharing what I’m up to. And I’m overdue moving this blog over to a new system that will allow me to build out a mailing list and a few other improvements.
Plenty of work ahead and I’m looking forward to all of it!
