It’s been a busy couple of weeks in my world. Let’s get caught up on what I’ve been up to and what I have coming up next!
I showed up to open mics at The Cure and at O’Hanlon’s over the last week. They were more than just Open Mic appearances for me, though, as for both I had plans to meet up with some friends/fellow musicians and talk shop. Always a pleasure to catch up with Rob and Jason.

Last night was a bit of a stretch out of my comfort zone. I attended my first Regina Songwriters gathering at The Exchange. I don’t know why I was nervous; there were many songwriters with far less experience than I, and the whole room was so supportive. I suppose the insecurity was more about bringing in an unfinished song to play for people. Usually, I’ve practiced something dozens of times before I show people. This time, I don’t know if I’ve even played it 10 times. But I got some good feedback and I’m ready to sit down, finish it and start rehearsing to put it in my repertoire.
On the subject of songwriting, I have a handful of new things I’ve been working on. I put one together, basically complete on Saturday night. I might actually rush this one into production because it’s a great Halloweeny song and I’d like to have it ready to play at the next O’Hanlon’s night.
I’ve got a couple of gigs on the road coming up this week. I’m headed to Saskatoon for work this week and I’ll be popping in to Winston’s on Thursday night to hang out with my bud Barry and play the open mic there.
Then, on Sunday, I head up to Prince Albert to play my first gig ever north of Saskatoon. It’s a fundraiser, and I’m excited to meet some folks from up there and start making connections. Barrett from the group The Kingtrapper reached out last night to see if I’d like to join him for a song or two playing kazoo, so I’m excited to make a good connection performing with him. Plus, I think I could add one or both of the songs to my repertoire as well.
Once I get through all of that, so far I have a quiet November ahead, which I’m looking forward to. I’ve got a few covers I want to work on, some cold-weather songs I need to dust off to play over the next few months, and I have at least one songwriting goal I want to hit before the next Regina Songwriters meetup in November. The theme is melody in music, and I have a melody on my phone that really needs to be developed.
And finally, tomorrow, October 21, marks one year since I first stepped back on stage and started Jeremy and his Kazoo in earnest! It's been a hell of a year with so much growth, so much creativity. I legitimately cannot wait to see what I've got in store for me in the next 365!!!
