Well, after that ‘lil existential crisis a week and a bit ago, I’ve made a pretty hard left turn into busy, busy, busy!
As I mentioned in my previous blog, I played at my grandmother’s internment this past weekend. It was a lovely ceremony: intimate, solemn and just a bit celebratory. Perfect balance. It was so much fun to play with my sister again; it’s been a very long time since we played together. Tip to self – don’t use an iPad for your music when playing outside. Neither of us could see very well! Just two old bags squinting at a music stand!

Monday’s show at Bushwakker was a lot of fun, too. My anxiety about being “bluesy” enough was maybe a bit unfounded. At least I perceive that I brought a strong showing. So strong in fact that I called an audible on my last song and slipped in a folkier track that was in a very minor key. It’s about road construction, so I felt it really applied to the staff and patrons at Bushwakker who, like me, walked through the dirt where the sidewalk used to be to get into the show.

The next couple of weeks are going to be busy, too. On Saturday night, I’m playing at the Library as part of the Nuit Blanche performances. The week after, on September 6, I’ve got a little gig near Asquith as part of DoyleFest. Basically a busking gig, but I’m excited to meet some folks, make some connections and just enjoy a weekend of music!
If my energy is there, I might sprinkle in an Open Mic at The Cure, go busk at the Farmer’s Market on Saturday and who knows what else. It’s time to play and have some fun!
