Details, details

The reality of my first show coming up in a few weeks is starting to hit me.
The good news is that my practice regime has been very good and I think I'm fully equipped to get the job done.

There are a couple of songs I'm not super confident in on the set. I think I can fix one with practice and I'm coming to the conclusion that I should replace the other - and soon so I can start rehearsing the replacement!
I put some posters up in Moose Jaw last month and I was delighted to hear from a friend that she saw them up in town this weekend. They've survived! I also need to finish putting together my QR sign to put up at the show. I'm also interested in getting a backdrop or some kind of sign - but maybe that can wait until I have a few more gigs under my belt.

My gear is nearly together for the show. I re-built my pedal board a week ago so it makes much more sense and I even bought my first thing on Reverb, a vintage A/B box so that I can make the switch between acoustic and electric smoothly.

Speaking of acoustic, I've been struggling a bit with comfort while playing it. I've shortened my strap length and changed my strings to a lighter guage this weekend. So hopefully that gets me past the finish line. My favourite guitar strap also came back into stock so I've got one of those coming in the mail - hopefully soon! I think I may have legit bought the last one after waiting about 3 years to see them come back in stock. While I was at it changing strings, I also fixed some issues I was having with the new string pegs my dad built for me so my acoustic bass is finally truly back to 100%.

Yes, one of them is shorter. It was the spare and it's charming. Plus it took me another hour to find the one that had been there and popped out. Could have lost an eye if I'd been there for it!

I'm also getting out to Open Mic as much as I can so I can give each of the songs I'm performing a chance on stage before the big show. I played a couple on Monday that seemed to fall a bit flat. Going to have a good think about wether there's anything I want to do about that. I'm also going to head out to Swift Current on Friday for an Open Stage. It's more about networking than practicing my songs so I'll probably stick with some of my more polished material for that gig. Still not sure how much time they give.

I have one more exciting acquisition that's happened this week but I think I'll save that for another post. I want to take some pictures, do a short video and put some more thought in to it as well. I'm also considering what the rest of my summer should look like in terms of the project. I don't have any other gigs booked until October so I've got some time to play with.

So, more blogging to come and more exciting ideas and discoveries to share!
